After a restless night I took the opportunity to stay in bed for as long as I could, but was still up before 8am. Washing and shopping the order of the day, heading off to the Prahan Markets and then down Chapel St for some window shopping. Shopping at Coles and the markets and then home for lunch. Watched RPM and the Moto GP on tv and got rather excited about the upcoming weekend. Headed down to the local internet shop before heading home for some Annie’s Lane wine, cheese and biscuits. Kinda a regular average Sunday I guess... except for the fact I’m in Melbourne!

Woke at 6am – blah – before getting up at 6.30 to get ready for golf – yes instead of watching all
this sport it was time to actually take part in some. So dad and I headed down to Albert Park Golf Course, where instead of kangaroos you have ducks and black swans on the course. I played with the clubs I’d brought with me – 4, 6 and 7 iron and a putter – the sand wedge didn’t get used. A fairly open course, without any water I managed a 55, not bad as my first game in probably 6 months! Back home by 9.30am we headed into Melbourne Visitors Centre to suss out some accommodation options for my return to Melbourne before heading to Rod Laver Arena for a
tour of the facilities, and some of the history of the Australian tennis greats. Then over to the MCG for a tour of the grounds, quite interesting after the game on the weekend. Quick coffee before heading downstairs to the Sports Museum. Wow – 2 hours was not going to be enough. Wandered through the displays, going into cricket, AFL, MCC, Olympic, Australian Hall of Fame and other general sporting memorabilia. Got about halfway through before the place started to close. Left to head home after another big day of walking and it was bloody freezing – colder that most days in the snow! Home for another quiet night, sort out the van and soak up the last of the tv, probably for a while!

30th September
What to do, what to do? Last full day in Melbourne, we headed out and on the train again. Southbank and the Eureka Skydeck, the highest residential tower in the Southern Hemisphere. Dad and I went out on ‘The Edge’ a glass box that they move out from the side of the building to give you a view up, down and out from the 88th floor. Over to the Melbourne Aquarium, where I pointed out most of the fish I’d seen on The Reef and ooo’d and ahhhh’d at the turtles while dad lined up the pink snaper! Late lunch at a hotel (gotta love the Entertainment Book) and with $12 Parma and glass of wine (plus 25% off discount!) how could you go wrong? As dad got a free drink with his meal I polished off two glasses (the sacrifices I have to make!), and mum and I were quite content just to sit for a while! Walked through northern Melbourne to check out a backpackers for my return trip in November, through Flagstaff Gardens and over to the Queen Vic Markets (which weren’t open), auto shop so dad could do an oil change and a tram and train back home.
I went to an internet cafe while mum and dad did some shopping before heading home for NCIS and pancakes for tea – yummo.
