Bring on the Wineries SA!

Monday 25th August
So a week on the road – how time flies when you’re having fun! After a late night trying to sort out the internet I got a sleep in – until 7.30am! Dad went for an early morning walk and saw the Gahn train pull into the station. No rush to go we ambled around until 10am when we headed out, over the Flinders Ranges. Took a 7km gravel/rock track up to Hancock’s Lookout (and I’m sure Dad was having kittens in the passenger seat!). View out over the bay, ranges and Iron Knob (we think!). Back down the track (still having kittens) and onto the base of Mt Remarkable and the swinging bridge, which I refused to walk on while dad was on it, but not as much as the screaming kid on the other side who refused to cross, until mum left him and he was given no option. Drove onto Clare and stoped for lunch at the Tourist Info Centre before heading onto Sevenhill Winery... and spending about 1 ½ hrs there looking through the grounds, church cellars... oh and there was some wine to sample aswell. In a rather extensive range I was hard pressed to pick out just half a dozen, but with weight and space a concern in the van thought I’d best leave it there. Onto Annie’s Lane and a cuppa for dad to keep him happy while I sampled some more of the Valley’s produce. Just 1 bottle here before the 2hr drive into Adelaide... and a little nap for me on the way. Found the caravan park eventually, headed down to the pub at the end of the street for a meal (dad’s turn to cook) and back for an early night.

Tuesday 25th August
Washing day! Went for a walk to the botanical gardens across the road while we waited for it to dry. Beautiful spot with heaps to look at – cactus display was great. Packed up and headed into Adelaide for a look around and had lunch at Adelaide Central Markets at Lucia’s – first pizza bar opened in Adelaide in 1957. Bought some fresh fruit (and a massive single serve apple pie) and needed to move George so spent the next 15 minutes looking for another spot. Found one and then walked and walked and walked, taking in the historic buildings. Back to the car about 3.30pm and outa town (Diesel $1.629). Drove onto Murray Bridge, town built around the first bridge built that spanned the Murray River. The bridge is probably 500m, whilst the river is now around 150m wide, so it must have been amazing at full height. Set up with the sun setting over the Murray and I went for a run along the river to take in the ‘serenity’. Chilly night so dad stuck the heater on in the van... while I slept outside – brrrr!
